Millrock Park Green Initiative

The operation and maintenance of modern office buildings involves large amounts of energy, water, and other resources and creates significant amounts of waste. Buildings also impact the environment and ecosystem surrounding the building site. Millrock Park has committed to address these challenges by promoting energy and resource efficiency, waste reduction, pollution prevention practices, indoor air quality standards, and other environmental initiatives in our facilities.

Buildings in the United States account for:

  • 36 percent of total energy use and 65 percent of electricity consumption
  • 30 percent of greenhouse gas emissions
  • 30 percent of raw materials use
  • 30 percent of waste output (136 million tons annually)
  • 12 percent of potable water consumption

In 2008, Millrock Park began the process of attaining LEED® certification for all of the buildings in the office park. Millrock Management LLC is a member of the US Green Building Council, a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to raise awareness of green building principles and practices among the green building community and general public. In addition, it provides resources for the green building community and is a forum for communication, networking and recognition for green building professionals. The USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system is recognized as the most accepted standard of green building evaluation in the United States.

Millrock Park’s efforts have included to date:

  • Registration of all buildings as LEED projects
  • Membership in the USGBC Utah Chapter
  • Registration of all buildings with US EPA Energy Star
  • A Recycling Program for all park businesses
  • A re-commissioning program with Rocky Mountain Power Co
  • Green cleaning procedures in all facilities
  • Water friendly landscapes and plant selections
  • Car pool initiatives for all park businesses
  • Purchase of recycled content supplies
  • Partnership with UTA for new bus routes

Millrock Park is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and a leader in the promotion of sustainable practices in its operations. Our goal is to help

“… meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."*
